DESCRIPTION
Executive Director
Scope &
Purpose:
This part or full time position is responsible for leading OCDC’s
international public policy and member services programs to build member
value, enhance public policy advocacy efforts and create a positive public
image for international cooperative development. To accomplish this, the
Executive Director leads and implements the organization’s public
policy programs focused on the Congress and the Administration. A major
emphasis is placed on developing federal funding for international cooperative
development programs and maintaining good relationships with the US Agency
for International Development (USAID). The Executive Director is responsible
for growing and expanding the USAID Cooperative Development Program awards
for members, gaining support from the Congress and the Administration.
The Executive Director
will work with the Board of Directors to prioritize activities to meet
OCDC’s strategic objectives and its financial goals. Finally, the
Executive develops work plans and annual budgets for the organization.
ESSENTIAL
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Public
Policy
1. Monitors
federal agency and legislative activities for their impact on international
cooperative development.
2. Provides strategic direction for OCDC’s program and works to
implement the strategic plan.
3. Coordinates the OCDC Legislative and Cooperative Development Committees.
4. Has primary responsibility for identifying emerging policy issues that
affect international cooperative development programs and develops effective
legislative strategies to address the issues.
5. Develops coalitions, relationships and partnerships with like-minded
organizations to enhance OCDC’s domestic and international public
policy advocacy work.
6. Communicates OCDC’s public policy issues and activities to the
Congress, the public, and key opinion leaders and builds grassroots support
and awareness for such activities among members and the co-op community
at large.
7. Creates and manages the annual OCDC budget.
8. Ensures a cohesive, coordinated, and professional image for OCDC and
international cooperative development programs.
9. Represents OCDC before USAID and multilateral donors.
10. Serves on an as needed basis as a spokesperson for OCDC.
11. Conducts writing, editing and other communications activities as needed
to achieve OCDC strategic communications goals.
12. Responsible for the ongoing recruitment and retention of OCDC members
SKILLS AND
EXPERIENCE:
• Established relationships with upper-management staff in USAID.
• Demonstrated skill and at least seven years experience in federal
public policy advocacy; direct experience working in the Congress and
federal agencies preferred
• Demonstrated experience in managing coalitions, networks of experts
and partnerships
• Excellent written, oral, public and interpersonal communications
skills
• Degree in political science or related field preferred
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of international cooperative
development a must
• Demonstrated success in managing multiple projects simultaneously
• Demonstrated capacity in economic analysis
• At least two years experience in managing multiple staff
• Flexibility and team player
• Ability to interact successfully with a Board of Directors and
Committees

Research Assistant
To Support Cooperative Development Organizations
Position
Description: This position will assist OCDC with a variety of
research efforts to further the collaborative agenda of eight overseas
cooperative development member organizations. Research and analyze members’
portfolios and market them with other donor programs, including IFAD,
CGAP, World Bank and others. Help research and possibly create an adult
youth program including potential section of the website, listserv, and/or
informational classes. Assist with legislative briefings and publications
and other duties as assigned.
We are seeking an intern, metro
stipend provided, flexible hours.
Position
Qualifications: Excellent writing, researching and communication
skills. Need to be interested in and knowledgeable about international
development. Experience designing websites using Dreamweaver a plus.
