Union encompasses all the major retail consumer societies and their associated
federal co-operatives, such as the the Co-operative Group (the worlds
largest retail consumer co-operative), Co-operative Insurance Society
(CIS), Co-operative Press, National Co-operative Chemists and Shoefayre
and, following a merger in December 2001, now includes the worker co-operative
sector and other democratically owned businesses. It also embraces organisations
responsible for co-operatives in other sectors of the economy. DID's mission is to reinforce developing country populations' ability to act by promoting the management of collectively owned and managed companies. DID carries out mandates that improve the quality of life in local communities through the efficient use of financial services. Together with partners abroad, DID experts contribute to the creation and consolidation of savings and credit union networks, assist with the implementation of computer networks in caisses, and help set up security and control organizations to oversee the activities of financial cooperatives.
From 1989 to 2000 a Social Economy Unit existed within DG Enterprise (ex-DGXXIII). The Unit was established in 1989 in recognition of the need to take account of co-operatives, mutual societies and associations in the internal market. The focus of the Unit was further defined at the European Social Economy conferences held under various EU presidencies (Paris 1990, Rome 1991, Lisbon 1993, Brussels 1994, Seville 1995 and Birmingham 1998) and through continuous dialogue with the representative organisations of the social economy families and their European federative bodies. We are committed to working in partnership with our associated coffee producer cooperatives in order to create more equitable trade mechanisms. We strive to promote fair trade and sustainable development alternatives in both the North and the South, while continuing to sell the highest quality coffee on the market. ICMIF is an international association that represents both mutual and cooperative insurers, providing a huge variety of services to member organizations including networks, conferences, topical reports and studies, regular publications and development assistance. ICMIF's purpose is to strengthen collaboration among cooperative insurers and provide a forum for issues and concerns of common interest. Cooperative Development Foundation, popularly known as Sahavikasa, was formed in 1975, when a group of Individuals came together and started working for the development of cooperatives. The aim of Sahavikasa is to promote an environment in which cooperatives flourish as decentralised, democratic, self-help and mutual-aid organisations effectively harnessing and fostering local resources in consonance with the universally accepted Principles of Cooperation. In 1985, some of Quebec's cooperatives and mutual societies came together to create an organization that would allow them to share their experience and expertise with cooperative and mutual organizations from developing countries in their development activities. This was the creation of SOCODEVI: Société de coopération pour le développement international, a Canadian nonprofit corporation. Through the involvement of its member institutions and through promotion of the cooperative movement and other forms of association, SOCODEVI contributes to sustainable development in partner countries with a view to empowering their inhabitants.
The Canadian Co-operative Association (CCA) is the national umbrella organization of anglophone co-operatives. Formed in 1987 through the merger of the Co-operative College of Canada and the Co-operative Union of Canada, the CCA supports and promotes co-operative enterprise in Canada and around the world. The International Labour Organization is the UN specialized agency which seeks the promotion of social justice and internationally recognized human and labour rights. The ILO formulates international labour standards in the form of Conventions and Recommendations setting minimum standards of basic labour rights. It provides technical assistance in many fields, including cooperatives. It promotes the development of independent employers' and workers' organizations and provides training and advisory services to those organizations. Oikocredit was created to build bridges between rich and poor, by making credit accessible to the disadvantaged of this world. At the heart of the Oikocredit mission lies the conviction that loans for productive business enterprises provide a stronger incentive for self-development than grants alone. Oikocredit functions as an alternative investment instrument.
The ICA is an international non-governmental organisation which unites, represents and serves co-operatives worldwide. The ICA International Co-operative Web Site contains information on the International Co-operative Alliance, its aims and activities and information on the co-operative movement in different economic sectors: agriculture, banking, credit, consumer, energy, fisheries, housing, insurance, workers, tourism and health care, and from all continents as well as links to other sites and issues of interest to co-operators.

The International
Raiffeisen Union (IRU) is a worldwide voluntary association of national
co-operative organizations which work and ideas are based on Friedrich
Wilhelm Raiffeisen's principles - i.e. self-help, self-responsibility
and self-administration. IRU was founded in 1968 on the occasion of the
150th anniversary of Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen's birth and has today
77 members in 41 countries. Rooftops Canada is the international development program of co-operative and social housing organizations in Canada. Rooftops Canada works with partner organizations to improve housing conditions, build sustainable communities and develop a shared vision of equitable global development. Rooftops Canada's focus is on disadvantaged communities in Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Eastern Europe. The Australian Centre for Co-operative Research and Development (ACCORD)is a joint venture of the University of Technology, Sydney and Charles Sturt University. It is funded by the NSW Department of Fair Trading and the two Universities. ACCORD was formally established on 1 July 1999. ACCORD serves co-operatives, mutuals and the social economy. By building, applying and disseminating knowledge about membership based democratic organisations, ACCORD will increase Australia’s capacity to advance sustainable social and economic development through collective action.
The Swedish Cooperative Centre (SCC) is a non-governmental and non-profit organisation for the provision of support to self-help development initiatives - cooperatives, farmers´ associations and informal groups - in developing countries. Our Swedish name is Kooperation Utan Gränser (Without Boundaries). It originates from the first fund raising campaign in 1958 - an initiative of the Swedish cooperatives which led to the establishment of the SCC as a development aid organisation.

NDDB's programmes and activities seek to strengthen farmer cooperatives and support national policies that are favourable to the growth of such institutions. A community based cooperative, focused only on savings and credit activities. It was established in 1999 to help backward women of the area. More then 400 women are saving regularly as shareholder of the organization. Women of the area as well as their families are benefiting from the services that the organization is providing them.
